Why You Might Like Southminster

You seek a casual, welcoming, inclusive, and growing church community.  Diversity is valued and encouraged at Southminster.

You love to be the heart and hands of Jesus Christ in mission—here and around the world. We are at our best when we are working to make life better for people who are struggling. Families love to serve Christ through mission and service such as Habitat for Humanity, The Foodbank, tornado relief, new mission projects, and mission beyond the Dayton and Centerville area. One Sunday a year, Southminster folks participate in The Church Has Left the Building in lieu of worship.

You are looking for a church community that’s big enough to offer a variety of great ministries and programs—and small enough to get to know others and feel at ease. Southminster folks love to laugh, play and, of course, eat together! Offered are many church-wide activities as well as more than 30 small groups for study, fellowship, like interests, and support.

You are seeking quality children’s and youth ministries that your kids will enjoy and where they will grow in faith. Kids—infants to grade 12—are offered quality care and learning, fun and friendship. In addition, children love Vacation Bible School; younger youth grow in faith through mission work and puppet ministry; older youth travel to mission camps and youth retreats.

You appreciate an affirming message in worship that both engage the Scripture and meet you where you are. Pastors Nancy Birdsong and Laura Nile Tuell deliver messages that linger in the Head all week and that challenge and inspire the Heart and Hands to support and serve others. The prayers of the people and the sharing of the gospel of Jesus Christ uplift us!

You love inspiring music—both traditional and innovative—and the organ, puppets, and bells. The worship experience is relaxed and uplifting—celebrating what God is doing in this place, with a dynamic organ, award-winning puppets, beautiful bells, and more. Hymns are both familiar and fresh.

You want to be listened to and cared for. In addition to pastoral care, counseling and hospital visits offered by the pastors, Southminster’s well-trained Stephen Ministers, and the deacons provide care and support through dozens of ministries.

Your heart yearns for a sense of peace and purpose every day. We are all on a faith journey, and we welcome you to find peace and purpose with us.

Southminster is a community that is excited about God and what we believe God wants us to be and do.
