Laura came to Southminster in the summer of 2019 directly from Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, this is Laura’s first ordained call.
Laura calls the whole West Coast home—she was born in Northern California, raised in Oregon, and spent most of her adult life in Seattle, Washington. Laura began attending a Presbyterian church while in college and after several years on staff, realized she had found her church home among the “frozen chosen” Presbyterians. She spent her years in Seminary working for Presbyterians for a Better Georgia where she helped mobilize local congregations in political advocacy for policies that better serve our most vulnerable neighbors. She continues to be passionate about finding creative ways for the church to engage with the local community and its needs, especially when that means addressing public policies.
As Associate Pastor at Southminster, Laura regularly preaches, provides worship leadership, and pastoral care. She works directly with the youth at Southminster and oversees the children’s ministry and Christian Education for all members. She also works with the Board of Deacons and several committees.
In her time off, Laura loves to cook, hike, and catch up on her favorite TV shows. She has been fortunate to travel all around the world and the United States and enjoys spending vacation time with family.
Laura is in the church office Monday-Thursday and takes her sabbath on Friday.
