Anyone who enjoys a good book is invited to a discussion on “The Hate U Give”. This story is about a 16 year old African-American girl whose world falls apart when she witnesses the shooting death of her friend by a white policeman. It is a gritty portrayal of life through her eyes as she copes with the situation and the growing anger within her community, as well as her own emotional roller coaster. The book is very well written by 1st time author Angie Thomas. The language is often rough, but it comes across as real – not used simply for shock value. This book continues the on-going process, endorsed and supported by the Christian Education Team, of looking at social issues and injustices faced by people of color. Come, join in or listen to a friendly, serious, and lively discussion of the book, its issues and how they relate to us and to our world. Questions? See Lois Thorp, Gay Amos, or Pat Elliott.
