The SPC communications team has been working to modernize the Southminster web site. We are ready to share our progress and get feedback from the congregation regarding how it looks, what might have been missed and to solicit ideas for additions in the future.
We have communicated our approach with Nancy Birdsong. She told us to move ahead and not wait for her arrival.
Our goals were:
- to apply the new logo and vision statement,
- make the site more useable from phones and tablet computers,
- make it possible for more people to update content on the site,
- move to a platform (WordPress) that makes it easier to add features to improve interactivity, and
- position ourselves to be more adaptive for future changes.
For the most part, what you will see is the same content we had on our old site – just presented in a modern, attractive way.
You will notice two menu bars on the new site. At the very top is a gray menu with black lettering. This provides access to information that would be of most interest to our congregation.
Below the logo, there is a burgundy menu that provides access to information that would be of most interest to visitors.
A few new additions you may want to review:
- Staff Bios
- New events calendar (under construction)
- News and Notes Archive
- Team listing (under construction)
In the near future, we will place a “Check out our new site” button on the current (“old”) sminster.com site to make it easier for anyone to review and comment on the new web site. In the meantime, you can see the new site at http://www.sminster.com/
Starting Friday, 9/15 we will make announcements inviting the general congregation to review the new site and provide feedback. The Communications Team will reply to all feedback and explain how it will be used to improve the site.
Once we have given ample time to review and apply feedback, we will retire the old site and replace it with our new look. (Our internet address will continue to be www.sminster.com.) The “go live” date for the new site depends on the amount of feedback we receive. We would like your feedback by Wednesday, September 29. Watch for further updates.
It is important to note: the new platform makes it very easy to change the site. Nothing is cast in stone. We are looking forward to your feedback, ideas and corrections!
You can email your feedback to email@example.com or use the “Feedback” link that appears at the bottom of our web site.
Feel free to share this information with others..
Thank you for your help, ideas and support!
