The Session, acting on the recommendation of the Personnel Team, Pastor Nancy, and the Presbytery’s Committee on Ministry, is pleased to announce the hiring of the Reverend Steven L. Schumm to the 30-hours-per-week position of Interim Associate Pastor, effective March 1, 2018.
Steve most recently served for two years as Interim Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Urbana and has prior experience in both interim ministry and ongoing pastorates. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Arts, Bible and Theology and a double minor in business administration and computers from Eastern Mennonite University in Virginia and a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary. He is certified in transitional ministry education and is a certified relationship facilitator.
Steve is married to Joni Sancken, Professor of Homiletics at United Theological Seminary. They have two children: Maggie, age five; and Teddy, who is two. They make their home in Oakwood. Steve enjoys detail work, organization, and information management. He loves visiting with and getting to know new people and their stories, reading, literature, and watching just about any sport.
