The Path of Community
Our Council Mission Statement: “Touching lives for Christ by engaging the congregation in caring for one another, maintaining a connection with each member, and providing opportunities for fellowship.”
Your Board of Deacons, organized as The Path of Community or The Community Council serves Southminster members and friends through five interconnected ministry areas: Compassion and Assistance; Prayer and Presence; Health and Wellness; Fellowship; and Member Involvement.
We reach out to the congregation through tangible expressions of care and compassion: Hometouch Newsletter, cards, lamb ministry, prayer shawls and squares, college packages, delivery of sanctuary flowers (new), Share your Garden (new), and Southminster Care Crew (new).
We support one another by providing a listening presence through prayer and lay counseling: prayer chain, Wednesday night intercessory prayer group, Service of Healing Prayer, Care Connection Callers, Homebound visitation, Hospital visitation, Hospital follow-up (new), Care Ministry training, Stephen Ministry and Care Notes (new).
We promote health awareness and assistance: Alzheimer’s support, CPR/AED training, grief support, Blood drive, Health Fair (new) and Prayer walks.
Through fellowship opportunities, we build and nurture relationships and encourage hospitality: Coffee corner, Elderberries, Memorial/Funeral service meals, kitchen assistance, Feeding the Flock, and Church-wide events.
We connect members into the life and ministry of the Church, through personal contacts or interests in the community, workplace or neighborhood: introduction of new members to Church life, Using my Gifts in Ministry Survey, and recognition of departing members (new).
For 2009 your elected deacons included: Mark Amos, Annie Gillies, Ellen Ireland (Moderator), George Lawson, Jackie Lindsey, Jill Matteson, Jerry Millhouse, Carolyn Nagy, Shirley Oglesbee, Marge Sarringar, Pam Snyder, Bev Stout, Lois Thorp and Holly Woods. We are grateful for those at large members who assist us in our efforts: Jerry Craig, Suzi Dameron, Bob Kienzle, Pat Kirby and Judy Murphy, and for those of you who serve on our council committees or projects. Darlene Irwin from Session is a valued member of our Council.
We desire to have Southminster meet your needs as a vibrant, active and engaging place of care and compassion. Please join us in our work – additional hands are always needed. Let us know how we can better serve you.
