Welcome to the Learning Resource Center of Southminster Presbyterian Church
The Learning Resource Center is a large collection of religious and secular materials including
- Books for adults, children and youth—fiction and nonfiction (mostly 200 Dewey numbers)
- Audio visual materials including DVD’s and Video tapes
- Church curriculum, with a focus on reformed materials
Some of the resources are designed to help teach a class while some will be especially for individuals to use for study, devotions or to read for enjoyment. The many videos/DVD’s include study guides and helps for teaching and others are for personal use. The collection has an extensive fiction and children’s collection. The catalog of all materials can accessed by clicking here.
The Learning Resource Center is in the Southminster Presbyterian Church at Alex Bell and Far Hills Avenue in Centerville and is a project of the Learning Council of Southminster. The LRC is fully accessible through the lower level, off Alex Bell through the week or by entering the main entrance on Far Hills on Sunday. The entrance is directly in front of the elevator.
The collection will be available any time the church is open for regular office hours (Monday through Friday from 9 till 5), when the church is open for meetings in the evening, and on Sunday during the morning from 8:00 till noon. There is a self check-out process at the LRC desk. The LRC will be staffed by Jeanne McIver, a Certified Christian Educator in the PCUSA on Thursday afternoons from one until four and at other times by appointment (phone: 433-1810 or email: Jeanne@sminster.com)
Anyone may use the resources and most may be borrowed for a month at a time. A fee schedule for subscription to the LRC is being considered in order to keep the collection current. The members would also cooperate to buy expensive teaching materials for shared use.
We are also building a collection of online learning resources. Click here to see our list of online learning resources.
History: The LRC collection includes all materials from the Resource Center of the Presbytery of the Miami Valley (formerly in the Memorial Presbyterian Church on Smithville), the library of Southminster, selected materials from New Source and many materials from personal libraries.
